I appreciate it isnt fun, when it's done for real, and as an infantryman you'll have had more than your fair share. However a lot of the guys airsofting haven't had military service and would rarely have the opportunity to see what it's like to fight the cold, be aware and stare at shadows for hours wondering if that really was movement.
The thing with setting an airsoft exercise is that you cannot please all the people all the time. What I'm trying to guage is what the majority that might be interested, would want to do.
Foxhole or pissup?
Why do I know asking that question is a waste of time on this forum? :D

I've done this sort or thing in airsoft in modern clothes, it was fun and worth doing as an experience. But its dangerous.

Not that dangerous whilst you're doing it, but dangerous on the way home. Not getting any sleep does not make for good driving!

So, I'll not be bothering again, but for anyone who does... Please make sure you have enough proper rest before driving home for several hours!

I will testify to the excelence of a 24 hour game.

When I did my first 24 hour game, I will admit I thought it was going to be a bit pants, butt since then I have done 2 24 hour games and a butt load of over night games, and I will say the 24 hour games are nothing short of great.

But it all comes down to the planning, Bad planning = Bad game. Good planning = Good game, simple as that.

Zero Bravo, Did you get the amended plan from Corvin?

I must admit to voting for the drinkies, it's a lot easier to marshal. Also as pointed out, our 24hr games have all been attended by locals and not people who have a long drive home, a thing I hadn't considered!

Quite right!
I don't drink but fighting through the night then driving home next day is dangerous especially when many of us are the wrong side of 35 or is that 40

I voted Stag :D

But yes, I agree with Zero Bravo, most of our games are usually local, and I admit, I didn't think about that myself.

Whilst I'd like to try the all nighter idea at least once I don't think Febuary is the best time to do it. I think you'd be better off playing a night game which involves elements of guard duty as well as some patrolling & raids and still allow people to get some decent sleep/drinking in. That shouldn't be too difficult at that time of the year given how early it gets dark.

It would be no problem to call endex on the Saturday approx 8-30 - 9 pm ish, which would have given 3 - 4 hours night time play, all come back in for food and drinkies by a big fire. I'm also guessing pre dawn attacks would be out of the window and a nice civilised 9.30 am start after lashings of bacon banjos and tea :)

I do feel the bulk of what the game is about will be lost if the stag and foxhole nigh warfare is got rid of!

Don't get me wrong, it's not just a walk in the park, it's 24 hours of being in whatever kind of whether is thrown at you.

When it's available, I would highly recomend having a read through the game rules and story line before you decide. As I have put alot of thought into it, and Zero Bravo will have too. :D

Whilst you might think that, when organising a game you have to think what others want, and are capable of and their level and quality of equipment.

Sunrise in mid Feb is 7.15am with Sunset at 5.15pm. Average temperatures are around 5 celcius, often below zero at night.

People's resolve collapsed during warm conditions, but with very heavy rain in the summer 07. Transfer this to February and people would be in for a shock, especially without camping equipment to shelter in.

I like the idea of foxhole/stag duty, but I'd rethink it for late Spring/early Summer. The last thing anyone wants is hypothermic airsofters.

Yes... in my experience of 24 hour games not everyone is up for it even if they say they are.

At most of the ones I've been to almost everyone has gone to sleep at about midnight even if they're on stag. Sometimes in the game zone, sometimes back at camp or in their cars.

I did stay up for 24 hour games twice... this resulted in two different results for me.

First game at Catterick (March)
We were on the defensive so I stayed up on stag all night and defended our base with 3 other friends from many attacks... We were supposed to be relieved, but everyone else was asleep and didn't wake up. I got an hours sleep after daybreak.

Second game at Catterick (August (ish))
We were on the offensive. We attacked the defenders building at about 2am (the same building I was defending on the first game). None of the defenders were awake. The attackers (I was covering them from outside) went through the whole building waking everyone up and telling them they were dead... they then had to get a marshall to come and tell them to get the hell out of there as they were falling back to sleep again... I then went and slept in the enemy building for an hour or so until we were attacked a few hours after daybreak.

I'm not up for repeating that... Been there... done it... its hard work.

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid,i am old you see,(need my creature comforts) well compared to the young whipper snapper that wants to stag on and sleep in a shell scrap. :( I have had many years standing in a cold, damp, fire trench (-20 north German plain) thinking what the f'@£k am i doing here :slap: moments, so forgive me for not wanting to pay to do it. Good luck with it. :good:

Fair enough. I dont want any of you to think I'm being bolshie and unwhiling to cooperate :( But initially I did not think about the distance people may have to travel.

I'm sure we can figure out a way, in which both parties can take part, and we can get the best of both worlds. :D

I will say, although I picked stag over drinking, I dont think I could go a full 24 hours without a drink...fate worse than death! :(
